Women and girls can effectively fight sexual and gender-based violence by doing the following:
1. Learn about your rights and the laws in your community. This includes knowing the laws that protect women and girls from gender-based violence and abuse, as well as the laws that punish perpetrators.
2. Reach out to your local authorities or organizations for help. Organizations such as the police, women’s shelters, and anti-violence organizations can provide support and assistance.
3. Speak out against gender-based violence and abuse. Joining protests, writing letters, or starting a social media campaign are all ways to share your voice and help raise awareness about the issue.
4. Support other women and girls. Offer support, listen to their stories, and encourage them to take action.
5. Educate yourself and others. Learn about gender-based violence and abuse and share what you’ve learned with others.
6. Create a safety plan. Make sure you and your family know what to do if you experience gender-based violence or abuse.
7. Seek professional help. Seek out counseling services, if necessary, to help you cope with the trauma of gender-based violence and abuse.
